Job Description
Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, or Manchester (minimum 2 days on-site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements—please discuss options with your recruiter.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
2. Collaborate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
3. Support assurance activities in coordination with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
4. Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress via agile tools.
5. Ensure timely delivery of engineering plans.
6. Guide and instruct on engineering methods and processes.
7. Develop technical solutions with the engineering delivery team, fostering team development.
8. Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Experience in designing large-scale C&I systems meeting functional and industrial standards.
2. Managing non-functional requirements such as EMC and shock resistance.
3. Authoring/reviewing design documents (I/O schedules, specifications, interface control documents).
4. Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
5. Understanding of control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
6. Experience with IEC 61508 or similar functional safety standards.
7. Experience with maneuvering systems across various industries.
