Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a permanent Band 7 Occupational Therapist (OT) to join the Burns & Plastics Inpatient Therapy Team at Salisbury Hospital. We are a regional specialist Burns & Plastics unit for the South-West, providing care for adult and paediatric patients from Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. Typical caseload includes burns, major lower limb trauma reconstruction, amputees, hand trauma, infections leading to skin and soft tissue loss and subsequent reconstruction, and orthopaedic/medical outliers.
This Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist will work alongside the Band 7 Physiotherapists to lead and develop the OT service. While primarily covering an in-patient caseload, there is also an element of Scar Management Clinic and outpatient therapy provision for patients being treated in Burns Outpatients and amputees both pre- and post-op.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to lead the Burns & Plastics OT team and be responsible for clinical supervision of Band 6 OT, appraisals, and ongoing service development, ensuring compliance with the National Burns Care Standards.
The role requires advanced assessment and clinical decision-making as part of the MDT, including functional assessment and rehabilitation, splinting, wheelchair prescription, and leading complex discharge planning.
Candidates should be committed to providing high standards of care, with consideration given to those who demonstrate the Trusts' visions and values.
The Burns & Plastics team operates a 6-day service from 08:00 to 16:00 and provides cover on Bank Holidays on a rota basis, so flexibility in working pattern is required.
