Overview
Job summary: A full and comprehensive range of services are available at the main hospital site, Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley. We have a dedicated Antenatal and Gynaecology outpatient area with day case surgery. Out-reach clinics and day case surgery are also performed at The Corbett Hospital in nearby Stourbridge. The maternity unit at Russells Hall Hospital has both midwifery and obstetric led units with 46 beds, including 2 pool rooms and 2 dedicated theatres. The unit has around 4,000 deliveries a year. There is also a Level 2 Neonatal Unit based at Russells Hall Hospital consisting of 18 cots (2 high dependency, 3 intensive care and 13 special care cots). There are 4 transitional care cots located within the maternity unit.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a high quality service for women presenting with gynaecological issues both within the outpatients and inpatients setting.
* To be actively involved in the management and decision making for women whose pregnancies and labours have become complicated.
* To be available during the working week so that medical and midwifery staff can communicate and consult freely.
* To ensure that concise, agreed management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of all patients.
* To assist the multi-disciplinary team in the production of referenced, evidence based guidelines.
* To provide practical teaching sessions (including obstetric drills) to junior medical staff and assist in the postgraduate teaching for midwives.
* To provide conditions for improved training opportunities in line with national and local recommendations arising out of GMC and related requirements.
* On call requirement for Maternity of 1:16 basis with prospective cover.
* On call requirement for Gynaecology of 1:12 week basis.

Person Specification
Registrations - Essential
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
* Entry on the GMC specialist register for O&G, or eligibility of entry within 6 months of the interview CCT or CESR
Experience and Knowledge - Essential
* Basic experience in approved obstetrics and gynaecology posts
* Understanding of clinical governance and quality issues
* Clinical training in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT or CESR
Desirable
* Subspecialty in Urogynaecology Special Interest
* ATS M such as Advanced labour ward practice, Urogynaecology, Maternal medicine, Acute Gynaecology
Qualifications - Essential
* MRCOG or equivalent
