We are looking for a Head of Corporate Communications & External Affairs to help protect, enhance and advance Highland Spring Group’s reputation and influence. This part‑time role (3–4 days per week) is based in Scotland with regular presence at the Blackford site in the Ochil Hills and requires travel as needed. The role reports directly to the Managing Director and works closely with the Executive Team, Sustainability, Marketing, Operations, Legal and other key areas.
The role
Develop and lead the external affairs and corporate communications strategy, aligning with business priorities and long‑term brand objectives. Shape compelling corporate narratives around market leadership, sustainability, responsible stewardship and health & hydration. Provide trusted counsel to senior leaders, identify opportunities, manage reputational risk, and respond to sensitive issues.
What you will do
* Develop and lead external affairs and corporate communications strategy aligned to business priorities.
* Strengthen reputation across corporate, political, media, industry and stakeholder audiences.
* Build and maintain relationships with Scottish and UK government representatives, MPs, MSPs, local authorities, regulators, trade associations, industry bodies, community groups and key stakeholders.
* Represent Highland Spring in external forums and trade association discussions, advocating for our interests on policy areas including deposit return scheme, packaging & recycling, environmental regulation, water stewardship, sustainability, health and hydration.
* Lead corporate media relations and press office activity, working with marketing and agency partners.
* Develop proactive storytelling, thought leadership and executive profiling opportunities.
* Oversee stakeholder and community engagement, including on‑site visits programme, events and charitable activity.
* Provide reputation‑management advice to the Managing Director and Executive Team.
* Lead external issues and crisis communication, developing frameworks and escalation routes.
* Work with Legal, Sustainability, Operations and senior leadership to prepare and respond to reputational, operational or regulatory matters.
About you
You bring significant senior‑level experience in corporate or external affairs or a related discipline, ideally within FMCG, food & drink, retail, sustainability or a regulated sector. Strong understanding of UK and Scottish political, regulatory and media landscape with exposure to sustainability, packaging, recycling or health policy is required. You are a confident communicator with excellent writing and judgement, capable of shaping narratives, handling complex issues and briefing senior leaders. You operate at executive level, are pragmatic, discreet and resilient when dealing with sensitive matters. You are a credible ambassador for Highland Spring Group, values‑led and passionate about people, product, communities and the environment.
