Job Title: Data Centre Shift Leader (Critical Environment)
Location: Essex
Salary: GBP 60,000 + Benefits
Shift Pattern: 4 Days / 4 Off / 4 Nights / 6 Off (Repeat)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Shift Leader to join a high:performing team at a critical data centre facility in Essex. This is a hands:on leadership role, responsible for maintaining the integrity, availability, and performance of all critical infrastructure systems within a 24/7 environment.
Key Responsibilities
: Lead and supervise shift engineering teams to ensure safe and efficient operation of all critical systems (electrical, mechanical, and HVAC)
: Act as the primary point of contact during shifts for all technical and operational issues
: Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures and site:specific protocols
: Authorise and manage permits to work, including high:risk activities
: Monitor and respond to alarms via BMS and other monitoring systems
: Carry out and oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works
: Support incident management, including root cause analysis and reporting
: Maintain accurate logs, reports, and handover documentation
: Ensure SLA and KPI targets are consistently met or exceeded
Essential Requirements
: HVAP (High Voltage Authorised Person) certification (mandatory)
: Level 2 and Level 3 Electrical Installations qualifications
: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification
: Proven experience working in a critical environment (data centres, hospitals, or similar)
: Strong leadership and decision:making skills
: Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast:paced environment
Desirable Skills
: Experience with BMS and SCADA systems
: Knowledge of UPS systems, generators, and critical cooling systems
: Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a data centre
