We have a post in Haematology/Blood Transfusion available for a Biomedical Scientist at Band 5.

Our laboratory is accredited for UKAS ISO:15189 (2022), MHRA, IIP, and as a training laboratory by the IBMS for registration and specialist portfolios leading to HCPC registration. Band 5 applicants will be supported to complete the specialist portfolio.
You will work in rotation within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion department, with future rotations into Biochemistry. The laboratory is well equipped with Abbott HQ's, Werfen TOPs, TOSOH G11, Immucor, and GLP track. Experience with automation is an advantage.
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure personal competency in all areas of Blood Sciences and work towards becoming specialised in an area of Blood Sciences via a recognised portfolio route or equivalent experience.
2. Use knowledge, interpretive skills, complex analyzers, and IT to deliver Blood Sciences services.
3. Recommend and perform tests in Biochemistry, Haematology, and Blood Transfusion.
4. Perform initial screening and further investigation of diagnostic tests to produce complex quality results.
5. Authorize reports as per department procedures and guidelines.
6. Train other staff as required and directed.
7. Participate fully in the 24/7 shift pattern once trained.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Work as part of a team producing accurate diagnostic results, perform tasks within your role, follow SOPs, and contribute to service quality. Use judgment and departmental guidelines to authorize results, participate in routine and shift services, and ensure timely results to impact patient care. Manage stocks efficiently and perform troubleshooting as needed.
