The Trainee Location Sound Assistant is a key supporting role within the Sound department. Working with sound professionals with many years of experience, the opportunity will offer individuals the chance to learn and develop in a safe, supportive and nurturing filming environment. The Trainee Sound Assistant will learn about what equipment is used and how it's operated. From the mixing desk to mixing up talent, they will support with recording and replaying material, as well as helping with administrative, forward planning tasks. They will be shown how to transfer, upload and organise files, and get hands on experience wherever possible.


WHAT WILL IT TAKE?

We want to hear from people who are excited by sound - whether professionally or in their spare time - and interested in working in the world of TV drama. To be successful in this trainee role, you must have the following:
* A genuine passion for sound demonstrated by a clear effort to gain experience - whether through making your own content or via more professional channels
* Demonstrable basic knowledge about sound equipment and ways of storing, recording and editing sound
* Experience and examples of when you have worked in environments where there are conflicting priorities and problems to solve
* Experience and examples of when you have worked as part of a team and shared tasks with others as well as taking direction
* Interest in TV drama including BBC Studios content
Dates Opportunities will last for various lengths and run from Mid-October 2025 - February 2026.


ELIGIBILITY

Residency and Personal Status: These roles are only open to residents of the West Midlands Combined Authority area. You can verify this using the link here - applications from outside of this area will not be considered. Applicants must be aged 19 or over as of 31st August 2025, have been living in the UK for the past three years and have a valid National Insurance Number. Non-British citizens must have a permanent visa that allows access to public funds. Education Status: Applicants must not be currently enrolled in full-time education of any kind or enrolled in any part-time education which is funded by WMCA or the Department for Education. Applicants must not have completed any bootcamp funded by WMCA or DofE in the current financial year - April 1st 2025 - 31st March 2026. Employment Status: Applicants must not be in full-time employment. Part-time employment including freelance contracting is acceptable as long as applicants are available to work full time from October 2025.
