Main duties of the job
To lead and develop specialist psychiatry services within Brainkind Hospitals, operating within a recovery model that emphasizes learning new strategies and coping mechanisms for the lifelong effects of acquired brain injury and related conditions. The service functions holistically, adopting a bio-psycho-social approach within a community rehabilitation setting.
To act as a professional role model and support the clinical leadership team in achieving Brainkind's objectives.

Job responsibilities
The Consultant psychiatrist will lead during stabilization phases, managing polymedications, unstable presentations, and fragmented social support networks to be more manageable and beneficial for the individual. They will provide strategic psychiatric input within the multi-disciplinary team, using the BIRT neurobehavioral model for individuals with acquired brain injury.
The post reports operationally to the Hospital Registered Manager and clinically to the Director of Clinical Services. It involves administering the Mental Health Act and governance responsibilities.
Teaching, training, and research
Support in-house training programs on compassionate and holistic neurobehavioral approaches, lead academic collaborations, and support team development. Ensure research aligns with Brainkind policies, participate in audits, and contribute to research projects. Travel as required to fulfill role responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.
Personal development and supervision
Maintain professional competence, participate in supervision, reflect on practice, and engage in training and mandatory learning. Take responsibility for own health and safety, report hazards, and adhere to policies.
Working environment
Manage time effectively in a dynamic environment with unpredictable patterns and priorities. Support individuals exhibiting challenging behaviors with compassion and professionalism, including physical interventions if trained. Assist with personal care and mobility support as needed.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent.
* Higher degree in medical education, research, or management.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
Experience
* GMC registration with license to practice.
* Good standing with GMC, including no warnings or practice restrictions.
* On the GMC Specialist Register and approved clinician status.
* Approved under S12.
* Expertise in the specialty with broad medical knowledge and bio-psycho-social approach.
* Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
Requirements
* Valid UK driving license or alternative proof.
* Willingness to travel and stay overnight if required.
