Senior Project Engineer (Mechanical) Location: Rickmansworth Ideally, you will be based in or around South East England and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region. An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Affinity Water team, a Galliford Try business As our Senior Project Engineer, you will play a key role in projects that make a real difference to communities. This is your chance to work on challenging, varied schemes across clean and wastewater treatment, driving excellence from design through to delivery. You’ll collaborate with talented teams, influence outcomes, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to the highest standards. What you will be doing: Leading engineering activities from initial concept through to final completion, using in-house resources and coordinating site installation teams. Managing Non-Infra M&E projects within the water sector, ensuring seamless delivery. Driving design coordination, liaising closely with clients and project teams to develop practical, cost-effective solutions. Conducting early site investigations and feeding insights into design and planning. Championing health and safety, producing and reviewing risk assessments, method statements, and project management plans. Overseeing procurement, ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment. Supporting commissioning and testing, including factory and site acceptance tests, and delivering client training. Participating in design reviews and hazard studies, working collaboratively to refine solutions. Monitoring budgets and costs, contributing to financial reviews and cost-to-complete assessments. Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors, preparing orders and managing relationships. Managing variations and claims, assisting with evaluation and submission processes. Collaborating with site teams, ensuring work meets programme, budget, and quality standards. Developing Inspection and Test Plans, tracking progress throughout the project lifecycle. Driving innovation, while maintaining compliance with current standards and regulations. Preparing and managing project programmes, ensuring timely delivery. Closing out projects, including compiling “As Built” drawings, commissioning manuals, and O&M documentation. About You: Essential: An industry applicable mechanical ONC/HNC/B.Eng or NVQ equivalent. Full UK driving licence. Experience in the water industry Experience working Non-Infra Projects of varying sizes. Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Commercial awareness and strong contractual understanding. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Experience of leading and managing functions. Trustworthy and ethical approach, exercising discretion where required Organised, proactive, and passionate about delivering excellence. Flexible, resilient, and able to influence at all levels. A self-starter with a can-do attitude and commitment to teamwork. Desirable: Knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts, CDM, ATEX, DSEAR. CSCS/ECS Card. EUSR National Water Hygiene Card. SMSTS. First Aid at Work. City & Guilds Authorised Person Module.
