Are you a proactive team player who enjoys a varied workload? Do you love planning events and thrive in a busy office environment? We are looking for a Community and Events Team Leader to guide and empower people with learning disabilities as they work alongside you.

Community and Events Team Leader
Bishopthorpe, York, YO23 2RF

* Part time, 21 hours per week
* Permanent position
* £14,663 per annum (based on 21 hours/week, FTE £26,191)
* Additional hours available by agreement

Please Note: Applicants must be authorised to work in the UK

Brunswick Organic Nursery is a registered charity based in Bishopthorpe, York, which provides a productive and rewarding workplace environment for people with learning disabilities to grow and thrive in. We build skills and confidence, support wellbeing, and develop independence through offering opportunities in different work areas. These include event planning and office administration, crafts, woodwork, cooking, and horticulture (growing plants at the garden nursery, growing organic fruit and vegetables, and a contract gardening service for the local community).

The Role

The Community and Events teams are at the very heart of organising events that help celebrate our Brunswick community and provide opportunities for connection and friendship. We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic, and friendly Community and Events Team Leader to play a pivotal role in this aspect of the nursery.

* Do you enjoy enabling and supporting others to learn and develop?
* Can you build genuine connections with the people you work alongside?
* Do you love organising events and seeing others enjoy them?
* Are you organised with excellent attention to detail?
* Are you a thoughtful and supportive team manager?

In this role, you will lead small teams of people with learning disabilities, who have a range of skills and abilities, to organise inclusive events and talks, write newsletters, and develop our bite-sized learning programme. The size and focus of the events vary but will include small group walks, film nights, and the Christmas party, as well as events that are open to the public, such as an Open Day for our charity or being part of York Unlocked. This role also provides leadership and support for the Group Leader in the team and close liaison with our team of relief cover staff who cover groups in the absence of staff.

Work pattern: Our preferred days are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday with an 8.30am start. There is a requirement to be able to attend a team meeting, usually once per month on Tuesdays, 3.30pm-5pm. We may be able to offer some flexibility on the days of the week to be worked. Our ideal candidate will also be able to commit to some occasional overtime, e.g., in the lead up to a big event.

Benefits:

* 7 weeks annual leave including Bank Holidays – pro-rata for part-time
* Training and DBS check are fully paid
* Friendly and supportive team environment

The Ideal Candidate

You are a confident organiser, a compassionate leader, and a great communicator. Your people skills shine as much as your planning and administration abilities. You’re enthusiastic about inclusive practices, unflappable in a busy environment, and enjoy seeing others succeed. About you:

* Experience coordinating and running inclusive events
* Strong admin and office management skills
* Excellent IT proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Office 365)
* Experience supporting people with a range of abilities
* A respectful, empowering attitude toward individuals with learning disabilities
* The ability to lead and develop a supportive and dynamic team
* A calm, practical, and problem-solving approach

If you have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, a straightforward approach, and want a role that makes a difference, then we’d love to hear from you. Apply today!
