About the Service
The Older Person’s Psychology Service (TOPPS) is a team committed to improving the mental health needs of older adults living in Dumfries and Galloway. The TOPPS team uses a range of psychological models including CBT, Systemic, ACT, IPT and EMDR, with regular staff meetings, supervision and CPD support.
Role Overview
This post covers both community work and one specialist inpatient older adult ward (Cree Ward) at Midpark Hospital. The role involves assessing and providing specialist psychological interventions for older adults with complex mental health needs, supporting safe and effective person‑centred care, and working within multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the day‑to‑day referral system for TOPPS, coordinating with patients, carers, referral agencies and community mental health teams.
* Provide individual and systemic psychological assessments and interventions for a small caseload of community and ward patients.
* Supervise clinical psychology and psychological therapy staff within the area.
* Contribute to service development and manage aspects of staff work as directed by the Lead for Older Adult Psychology.
* Attend CPD and supervision sessions; flexible working arrangements may be considered.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should hold a recognised qualification in clinical psychology and have experience in providing evidence‑based psychological therapies, especially for older adult populations. Experience with CBT, ACT, IPT, EMDR or systemic approaches is desirable.
Working Hours & Conditions
Up to 29.7 hours per week are available. Flexible working arrangements may be available. The position includes dedicated CPD and supervision time.
