Role Purpose
Sibelco is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join a dynamic manufacturing environment. The Glass processing plant operates 24/7, and the successful candidate will participate in a day shift rota, including on call. The Maintenance Technician will work within and support the Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure the efficient operation of process equipment in a timely and constructive manner.
Responsibilities
* Ensure all maintenance work is carried out safely, following site rules and risk assessments.
* Monitor plant performance to identify potential breakdowns and report required actions.
* Carry out scheduled planned maintenance to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime.
* Diagnose faults and implement solutions as issues arise.
* Keep systems up to date and enter faults into the maintenance management system.
* Provide accurate reporting of maintenance, equipment status, parts/consumables used, and fault reports.
* Apply expertise to support resolution of process issues as they arise.
* Maintain workshop and offices to a high standard (organised, clean & tidy), including your own work areas.
* Assist in creating written procedures and SOPs; report obsolete documents for update.
* Ensure all work aligns with site policies and procedures and Health & Safety policies.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of quality culture.
Essential Qualifications/Skills
* Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent
* ONC/HNC Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering
* Knowledge of glass processing equipment (conveyors, screens, bearings, optical sorters) or similar industrial equipment is advantageous
* Experience in production, manufacturing, welding, maintenance, or servicing
* Basic electrical understanding; willingness to further develop electrical competence
* Proficient computer skills (Microsoft applications)
* Understanding of health, safety, and environmental protocols; experience with risk assessments
* Positive work approach aligned with company values; good interpersonal skills
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
* Flexible and responsible with a can-do attitude
* Effective written and verbal communication
* Experience with asset/maintenance management software and controlled work permit systems
* Comfort working autonomously and as part of a team
* Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing techniques (e.g., SMED, RCPS, 5S)
* Driving licence
Desirable Qualifications/Skills
* Higher education in electrical or mechanical engineering (HNC/HND) desirable
* Evidence of hands-on mechanical/electrical servicing/diagnosis qualifications
