The Post 18 Transition and Progression Coach Role:
As our Post 18 Transition and Progression Coach, you will provide targeted, specialist support to students aged 17–19 who are approaching the transition into adulthood, independent living, and post-18 responsibilities. The role focuses on the period from Year 12 summer term, through Year 13 and into Year 14 progression pathways, with the clear aim of reducing the risk of young people becoming NEET during or after this transition.

You will monitor academic progress, engagement and wellbeing, and work with Careers, Advice and Guidance teams to plan clear next steps into further education, apprenticeships, employment or higher education.
You will act as an advocate for students, identifying and supporting resilience to barriers to participation such as housing changes, financial pressures, travel challenges, and the instability associated with moving into independence. The role includes providing targeted life-skills workshops and offering a consistent, trusted presence within college, ensuring that education remains a stable, protective factor while learners experience significant change.

* Liaise closely with Personal Advisers, social care teams, external agencies, and other professionals involved in post-18 transition.
* Work collaboratively with the Virtual School, ensuring that interventions align with individual plans and pathways.
* Attend PEPs, multi-agency meetings, transition reviews, and professional discussions to ensure coordinated support.
Supporting College Staff
* Work alongside PDTs and curriculum teams to develop a clear understanding of the significant pressures students face during transition to adulthood.
* Provide advice, contextual information, and professional insight to help staff respond with empathy and flexibility.
* Offer training or briefings on issues linked to independence, vulnerability, trauma, attachment, and crisis response.
Maintaining Stability Through Periods of Change
* Provide a consistent, trusted adult presence in college throughout students’ transition to adulthood.
* Work with pastoral teams to implement plans that support educational stability during housing moves, financial shocks, emotional crises, and other disruptive events.
* Ensure that education remains a stabilising anchor and that students feel connected and supported.
Record Keeping, Monitoring & Reporting
* Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of support, progress, and interventions.
* Monitor attendance, behaviour, engagement, and academic progress, escalating concerns appropriately.
