We have a unique opportunity for a Production Manager to join and lead our new Beetroot production team and facility at Florette in Lichfield, WS13 8NF. The Production Manager will be responsible for the production operations from Raw Material intake through to retort cooking, through to Low care packaging. The successful candidate will achieve or exceed production performance KPIs across a balanced agenda whilst maintaining compliance to the relevant health and safety and quality procedures and policies. The Production Manager has major focus on the more systemic aspects of operations such as co-ordinating training, managing daily audits and longer‑term performance monitoring, trending and improvement, for the 70 man department. The role will also help lead all department activities which will include direct management of the 2 Area Managers and the interaction with scheduling, supply chain, NPD, technical/QA, Engineering functions and other production areas.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for the production operations from Raw Material intake, through to retort cooking, through to Low care packaging.
* Achieve or exceed production performance KPIs across a balanced agenda while maintaining compliance to the relevant health and safety and quality procedures and policies.
* Co‑ordinate training, manage daily audits and perform longer‑term performance monitoring, trending and improvement.
* Ensure Health and Safety compliance across all areas, directly or via Area Managers.
* Maintain good GMP in all production areas and uphold overall factory standards, especially during audits.
* Act as the site Health & Safety and Food Safety champion, fully complying with all HR policies and quality procedures internally and externally.
* Support the continuous improvement of Area Managers, including quarterly performance reviews, target setting and coaching.
* Ensure daily stock checks are completed and stock accuracy is maintained at 99% or above.
* Take responsibility for yield performance and deliver on targets set with the Manufacturing Manager.
* Effectively prioritise workload, meet departmental needs and give clear instruction to people in positions above and below the role, including reporting and presenting information.
Qualifications
* Good knowledge of FMCG manufacturing to level 5.
* Experience in a food manufacturing environment, ideally with industrial cookers/retorts.
* Relevant H&S qualification (NEBOSH or IOSH) and qualifications in Management/Leadership desirable.
* Experience managing and building teams with a headcount of 50+.
* Knowledge and examples of application of Lean tools and techniques, including problem solving.
* Good mathematical capability and understanding of yield and efficiency.
* Strong communication skills and a desire to build cross‑functional relationships.
* Knowledge of quality systems including HACCP and corrective and preventative actions.
