Biomedical Scientist (BMS) – Milton Keynes, England
Salary: GBP16.2 - GBP20.44 per hour
Key Responsibilities
* Perform analytical testing and validation of patient samples within Blood Sciences disciplines.
* Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analysers and automation systems.
* Process urgent, routine, and specialist investigations accurately and within turnaround times.
* Review and authorize results in line with SOPs, competency levels, and quality standards.
* Participate in IQC/EQA programmes and maintain compliance with ISO 15189 and UKAS standards.
* Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure sample traceability.
* Follow Health & Safety, COSHH, and infection control procedures.
* Support the training of junior staff and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
* Work collaboratively with clinicians, nurses, and laboratory colleagues to support patient care.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent recognised qualification.
* HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.
* Experience working within a Blood Sciences or Pathology laboratory.
* Knowledge of Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Coagulation, or Blood Transfusion.
* Experience using LIMS and understanding laboratory quality standards.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to prioritise workload in a fast‑paced environment.
* Effective communication and teamwork skills.
* Competent IT and data management abilities.
* NHS laboratory experience.
* Experience with laboratory automation, audits, validations, or quality improvement projects.
* Flexible approach to shift and out-of-hours working.
Working Conditions
* Shift, weekend, and on‑call working may be required.
* Role involves handling biological specimens in a regulated clinical laboratory environment.
