Senior Security Engineer
SSE plc is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join its technology division in Havant, Reading. This permanent, full‑time role is flexible and offers a salary band of £58,100 – £87,100, a performance bonus and a range of benefits.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with enterprise and solution architects and other functional teams to implement adequate security solutions to mitigate identified risks and to meet business goals and regulatory requirements.
* Research, design, advocate and implement new technologies, architectures, and security products that will support security requirements for the enterprise, customers, business partners and vendors.
* Evaluate and develop secure solutions based on approved security architectures, analyzing business impact and exposure to emerging security threats, vulnerabilities and risks.
* Develop the business and technical artifacts that constitute the cyber security architecture and solutions.
* Serve as a cyber security expert in SSE core security tooling development, network and/or platform (operating system) efforts, helping project teams comply with enterprise and IT security policies, industry regulations and best practices.
Qualifications
* Proven experience deploying and managing Microsoft Defender (all versions), Sentinel, Intune and Windows security solutions; strong proficiency in KQL, authentication protocols and conditional access policies.
* Practical knowledge of endpoint security across server and end‑user environments, including Active Directory, Entra ID, Windows and RHEL hardening and device management.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS; experience in operational technology (OT) environments is highly desirable.
* Strong communication skills, able to translate complex business and technical requirements into comprehensible models and templates.
* Team‑oriented interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with a broad range of people and roles, including security, vendors and IT and business personnel.
