Consultant in Medical Oncology with a Specialist Interest in melanoma and HPB cancers
The following position is with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. We seek a Consultant Medical Oncologist with specialist interest in melanoma and HPB cancers to join our existing teams.
Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Medical Oncology colleague to join our melanoma and HPB practices. The post-holder will provide systemic oncological treatments for patients diagnosed with melanoma and HPB cancers (including hepatocellular carcinoma and neuroendocrine tumours). The successful candidate will join a team of two Consultant Oncologists for melanoma and a team comprising two Medical Oncologists and two Clinical Oncologists for HPB care.
Responsibilities
* Provide systemic oncological treatments for patients with melanoma and HPB cancers.
* Participate in all facets of departmental activity including teaching, clinical supervision, audit and research.
* Work with multidisciplinary teams across Portsmouth, Fareham and the Isle of Wight, with CNS and registrar support.
* Engage in clinics at designated sites and coordinate with HPB and melanoma teams for patient care.
* Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives as part of the Oncology Team.
Clinical Location and Hours
This is a 10 Programme Activity (PA) post; discussions are welcome for requests to work fewer PAs. Clinics are based primarily at Queen Alexandra Hospital with systemic therapy delivered at Portsmouth, Fareham and the Isle of Wight. There is CNS and registrar support.
Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC registration with a license to practice
* Higher professional training in Medical Oncology
Desirable
* MRCP/FRCP or equivalent
* BSc or MD
Clinical Experience
* Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR or European Community Rights
* An appropriate higher Medical Oncology qualification
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
* Demonstrable skills and experience in areas relevant to the job plan
* Understanding of clinical risk management
* Able to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge and use of evidence-based practice
* IT skills and effective presentation ability
Research/Publications
* Experience in recruiting to clinical trials
* Willingness to participate in research as a consultant and participate in audit
Leadership/Management and Teaching
* Evidence of leadership/management experience and effective teamwork
* Ability and enthusiasm for leading service improvement
* Teaching of junior doctors and formal teaching/educational experience (Desirable)
Other
* Good oral and written communication skills
* Logical thinking, problem solving and prioritisation of clinical need
* Ability to work in multi-professional teams and understand NHS governance and resource constraints
