Cambridge University Boat Club – Lead Coach (Women’s Lightweight Boat Race)

Cambridge University Boat Club is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Sessional Coach to join the Women’s Coaching Team to Lead the Women’s Lightweight Boat Race Crew as we prepare for the 2026 Boat Races.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-performance university rowing programme with a strong tradition of excellence. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for on-water coaching sessions, with the opportunity to contribute to land-based training by mutual agreement.

We are looking for a motivated individual, ideally based in or near Cambridge/Ely, who is passionate about athlete development and eager to play a meaningful role in building a competitive and cohesive team.


Key Responsibilities

* You will report to the Women’s Chief Coach
* Delivery of the training programme and providing support for the athletes and coaches
* Our water sessions will be your primary concern, with opportunities to be involved at other times by discussion with the Women’s Chief Coach. These are three weekday mornings, and Saturday and Sunday. Including some weekends in Putney, London and abroad for Camp in January.
* As a starting point we are looking to employ a coach from 30 August 2025 until the Boat Races 2026. Extension opportunities may be discussed with the Women’s Squad Chief Coach.
* Report to the Women’s Squad Chief Coach and contribute to a unified coaching strategy aligned with CUBC’s goals.
* Foster a positive, high-performance culture that supports athlete development, team success, and recruitment.
* Collaborate with the wider CUBC coaching team to deliver consistent training methods and optimise athlete performance.
* Lead the coaching and development of the Women’s Lightweight Crew, delivering both on- and off-water sessions.
* Promote holistic athlete success by balancing academic achievement with physical and mental wellbeing.
* Support logistical operations, including boat transport, equipment setup, and coordination for training camps and events.


Primary Objective

To prepare the Cambridge University’s Women’s Lightweight Crew to win the annual Women’s Lightweight Boat Race.


Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

* Proven experience as a rowing coach or athlete.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Not Essential but desirable would be British Rowing L2, Experience towing and Launch Driving.
