Overview
A Vacancy at Northumbria Healthcare - NHCT Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking to recruit a competent and enthusiastic Technical Instructor to join our Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Service in Northumberland and North Tyneside. You will be based at Hexham General; the post will involve community work and you will be required to travel between sites. You will work closely with the Occupational Therapists, carrying out assessments and treatment sessions for patients within our service, including clinic and community work such as delivering/fitting equipment in patients\' homes, supporting group work and education sessions, and provision of appropriate splints as assessed by the OT to support hand function difficulties. You will need to work well as part of a team but lone and autonomous working is also required.
Hours
Our hours of operation are Mon– Fri, 8–5pm.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
* NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or above/equivalent or the willingness to complete within 12 months of employment or equivalent experience/and or qualifications.
* Education to GCSE or equivalent.
* A basic understanding of the philosophy of OT and its various core skills.
* An understanding of relevant legislative procedures within the OT department, including Health and Safety at work and Moving and Handling.
* Ability to work independently or jointly with another member of staff.
About the Service
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We aim to give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. Responsibilities
* Under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist (OT) the post holder will be expected to:
o Assist with providing a comprehensive occupational therapy service.
o Carry out assessments and other tasks that have initially been screened by the therapist, including minor adaptations and equipment (e.g. grab rails, banisters) and the completion of pre-operative assessments.
o Carry out appropriate intervention requesting advice or support as required.
o Perform any other task requested by the therapist appropriate to their remit, role and responsibilities.
o Assist the therapist in facilitating safe discharge of patients from care including delivery and fitting of equipment that has been agreed as needed.
o Undertake appropriate training as indicated by the therapist specific to the client group encountered.
