Position Overview
South East DriveAbility (SED) is a service provided by Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust. The role is led by the Head of Service/Consultant Practitioner and involves delivering occupational therapy input into driving advice and assessment for clients referred by the Driver Vehicle & Licensing Agency, Motability, Kent Police, rehabilitation companies, Access to Work, the Public Carriage Office, health professionals and self-referring clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high quality occupational therapy input into the driving assessment process, determining an individual’s driving ability, vehicle control and vehicle adaptation requirements.
* Work collaboratively with a driving assessor in a team setting.
* Travel to outreach centres once weekly, using SED vehicles (manual or automatic), and be available for extended working hours if required to support outreach services.
* Report to the Head of Service/Consultant Practitioner and support the delivery of specialist fitness-to-drive assessments accreditated by Driving Mobility and recognised by the DVLA and Motability.
Eligibility & Working Conditions
At this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Medway Community Healthcare. Nursing vacancies are open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses. Candidates must provide documentary evidence of right to work in the United Kingdom. The role requires working 8:30 am‑4:30 pm Monday to Friday with flexibility to cover outreach services outside of core hours. Overtime will be paid by the KCHFT bank system.
Other Information
We have received an annual grant from the Department of Transport and generate income from referrals by GPs, Allied Health Professionals, Motability, DVLA, Kent Police and private clients. SED operates between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, with a requirement to work out of core hours to cover outreach services. Staff are funded through the Bank system.
