Locum Social Worker – Children & Families
Location: Midlothian, Dalkeith
Rate: £25–£40 per hour
Contract: Locum / Ongoing
Start Date: ASAP
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Children & Families Social Worker to join a dynamic team within Midlothian. This is an excellent opportunity for a practitioner who is passionate about safeguarding children, supporting families, and delivering high‑quality statutory social work.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a varied Children & Families caseload in line with service priorities
* Undertake assessments using GIRFEC and SHANARRI wellbeing indicators
* Complete child protection investigations, risk assessments, and safety planning
* Prepare and present reports for case conferences, children’s hearings, and court when required
* Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police, and third‑sector partners
* Develop child‑centred plans that promote safety, stability, and positive outcomes
* Maintain accurate case notes and comply with statutory duties under Scottish legislation
Requirements
* Degree / Diploma in Social Work
* SSSC registration
* Experience in statutory Children & Families practice (e.g., CP, LAC, Duty, Assessment)
* Strong analytical, report‑writing, and risk‑management skills
* Confident working under pressure and managing complex caseloads
* PVG membership (or willingness to apply)
