Continuous expansion in our Renal Home Therapies (RHT) programmes requires appropriate & skilled workforce. We aim to provide the best care and keep patients safe at home.
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, hardworking and passionate renal nurse. This role will enhance your knowledge, skills and experience both in Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) & Home Haemodialysis (HHD) and gain management experience. You will have opportunities to work autonomously and collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
A skilled renal nurse with substantive renal experience (passionate for teaching and excellent communication skills), in possession of a relevant specialist and recognised renal course and able to travel/make use of public transport for home/community visits are the essentials.
This is a 6 month secondment / fixed term post. During this period, you will have the opportunity to work both in PD and HHD - gaining the knowledge, skills and expertise - a truly enriching experience.
A full UK driving licence as well as an experienced, competent and skilled in handling home dialysis machines: NxStage / Versi HD in HHD & Claria APD in PD is desirable.
Main duties of the job
1. Carry out planned care and training for a group of patients without direct supervision.
2. To coordinate the PD and HHD training program based at Home Therapies training unit and/or satellite units and external companies.
3. Assess patients suitability for home therapy, mental, cognitive and physical ability.
4. Plan, organize and deploy patients into the PD and HHD training program according to suitability.
5. Prioritize and manage patient workload as per referral of patients in liaison with the Head nurse Use initiative where training targets are not being met, discuss with Head Nurse, Home therapies team at earliest opportunity and agree revised action plans.
6. Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested. Liaise with the dietician, counsellor, technical services, transplant team and refer to patient seminars as appropriate.
7. To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.

8. Registered Nurse
9. Relevant specialist course Relevant post registration renal course (ENB 136/ or equivalent )
10. Evidence of continuing professional development demonstrating advanced assessment skills

12. Teaching Qualification (ENB 998/Slice or equivalent experience)
Experience
Essential criteria
13. Renal experience (> 6months)
14. Extensive experience both in PD and in HHD - acute and chronic.
15. Experienced, competent, knowledgeable and skilled in handling dialysis machines, e.g., Claria APD, NxStage or VersiHD HHD machine, etc

16. Previous work experience in PD or Home HD
17. Experience of being a Team Leader / Deputy In charge
