There is an exciting opportunity to join the Cardiac Physiology Team at NHS Forth Valley. We are looking for an additional Specialised Cardiac Physiologist to join our friendly and experienced Physiology team. The service has 11 consultants with clinical expertise in all aspects of cardiology including cardiac imaging including CT, rhythm management, electrophysiology and heart failure. Coronary intervention is provided by our tertiary partners in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Physiology staff include nine Band 7 staff members and five Band 6 staff members that are highly enthusiastic and well experienced.
The Cardiac Investigations department provides routine diagnostic procedures such as 12 Lead ECG, Holter/Events monitors and recorders, Ambulatory monitoring analysis, Exercise Tolerance tests, and Implantable Loop clinics as well as Physiologist led implants and explants. The Echocardiography service at provides TTE, TOE, Stress Echo and Contrast/Bubble studies. Our Cardiac Imaging Service covers a wealth of specialist areas including TTE, TOE as well as a well-established and renowned Stress Echo service. We perform approx 8000-9000 TTE and 200 Stress echo studies a year.
The team helps to run annual Basic and Advanced educational courses. We also have a well-established multimodality cardiac imaging service with CT coronary angiography available for the investigation of chest pain, and a developing cardiac MRI service. The Cardiac Physiology Echo teamwork within specialised Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Specialised Valve Clinics as well as an advanced Paediatric and Adult Congenital area. NHS Forth Valley Device Team has a large Device implant and follow-up service, including home monitoring for approx 1300 patients.
The service consists of specialist cardiac rhythm management consultants and 6 senior Cardiac Physiologists with clinical expertise in Cardiac Rhythm Management. The follow-up service includes routine clinical appointments (in-person evaluations), specified CRT clinics with extended times to ensure patient-appropriate optimisation, and remote/ virtual clinics. The implant service includes the implantation of pacemakers, ICDs, Subcutaneous ICDs and CRT devices. There were more than 200 devices implanted last year at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. We have a weekly Echo MDT and Arrhythmia MDT meetings within the department for support and collaborative working.
This role will also cover Holter Analysis and ETT in addition to training requirements in a Specialised area of Cardiac Rhythm and Echocardiography. We support a broad range of both clinical and non-clinical educational activities. Forth Valley Royal Hospital is a new, modern district general hospital and the Forth Valley region is situated in the Scottish central belt with easy access to the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
