Purpose

Reading Science Centre is the Global Science Centre for Mondelez International. In addition to providing research and scientific services to its parent company, it also provides a range of scientific services to other companies operating in the food and life sciences industries. RSSL UK total sales are approximately $55M and employ over 370 people.


Role

Core BD/AM Manager, part of the Commercial Life Science team, is jointly responsible for maximizing RSSL's sales, reputation and customer experience across its services to achieve annual sales targets. This hands‑on role is the key interface between Commercial, Operations, and the Customer, and will be the senior commercial services lead. The role reports to the Head of the Commercial Life Science Team.


Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities

* Achieve the annual Life Science sales targets by maximising existing client upsell/cross‑sell opportunities across current and new global client sites; develop the BD strategy with the Commercial Lead and execute it with the team.
* Ensure our service offerings and the commercial connection between RSSL and the client are customer and industry‑centric. Seek new sales opportunities and lead with operations, marketing, and the wider commercial team to deliver a complete service offering.
* Analyse, innovate and create plans for engaging the target market; identify, prioritise and lead sales growth; support the team through external events, client contact activity, and the creation and nurturing of client relationships and partnership programming.
* Manage major proposals, identify potential clients, track relationships and close sales opportunities.
* Act as the central point of contact for your accounts and connect with operations and technical experts to maximise client opportunities through BD activities.
* Undertake regular tactical planning cycles with territorial reviews; work with the team to create the sales pipeline and automate workflows in the CRM.
* Horizon scanning (1, 3 and 5 years) for new service offerings, determine market size and timing; develop the external client innovation funnel and seek funding approvals.
* Actively engage in professional industry bodies; network and present findings to the commercial lead, technical and leadership teams. Identify seminars/events where our technical experts can present or attend to foster client relationships.


Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Language Requirements

* Degree or professional qualification in the pharmaceutical industry with GMP understanding.
* Intermediate level in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Hands‑on experience with CRM and laboratory reporting tools.
* Proven communication and negotiation skills.
* Strong analytical skills to create reports and performance analyses supporting delivery of business SLAs.
* Proven record of project and people management, able to build and complete discrete projects within agreed parameters; able to multitask with multiple stakeholders and re‑prioritise in changing environments.
* Good communication and presentation skills with the ability to adapt style to colleagues and translate departmental impacts to all levels of the business.
* Process management – ensure activities are delivered in line with Mondelez International policies and promote good practice.
* Informing – keeps stakeholders and key partners updated.
* Peer relationships – collaborative, able to build internal and external partnerships and solve problems for the common good.
* Several years of commercial experience in a sales management or senior Business Development/Account Management role.
* Sales team and project management experience.
* Understanding and working with client contracts.
* Direct client experience.
* Fluent in English.
