Primary Role
Missouri American Water is seeking a full-time Water Quality & Environmental Compliance Program Manager to join our team in Chesterfield, MO. This lab-based role is essential in ensuring our treatment processes meet or exceed compliance standards. Responsibilities include participating in QA/QC activities, maintaining lab inventory, performing sampling, and supporting production efforts.
Our ideal candidate will be highly organized, a self‑starter, and possess technical knowledge and experience in a lab environment.
The Program Manager will organize advanced environmental management and water quality functions, maintain lab certifications, implement compliance programs, assist in resolving treatment issues, and investigate water quality complaints.
Key Accountabilities
* Manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality and environmental regulations and company standards for assigned facilities.
* Conduct advanced sampling and/or analysis and special projects (50%).
* Obtain, prepare, file and maintain all regulatory reports and records.
* Manage required permits and make necessary modifications and renewals.
* Participate in internal and external audits and represent American Water to regulators and customers.
* Identify potential issues and problems, initiate responsive actions, and mitigate environmental violations (10%).
* Supervise, monitor, and calibrate analyzers/equipment to ensure performance and accuracy standards are maintained (10%).
* Conduct advanced projects and prepare reports as needed (5%).
* Investigate and respond to escalated water quality complaints or concerns.
* Plan, prepare, and control the portion of the financial plan related to responsibilities (5%).
Knowledge / Skills
* Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations and current environmental legislation.
* Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods.
* Understanding of water and/or wastewater treatment principles and ability to troubleshoot systems.
Experience / Education
* Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
* Minimum of five (5) years of experience in water, wastewater, and laboratory operations.
Travel Requirements
* Local and regional travel.
* Rare overnight travel may be required.
Work Schedule
* Full‑time, on‑site.
* Monday–Friday, 8am–4:30pm.
* On‑call responsibility as needed.
