Associate Practitioner - Paediatric Histology

The post holder will work in Paediatric Histopathology at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital at Manchester Foundation Trust providing scientific support services to patients and customers. They will work alongside Biomedical Scientists and Consultant Histopathologists contributing to the day‑to‑day running of the department.
Working pattern is 7am‑7pm Monday to Friday (in shifts).
Main duties of the job
They will be expected to take part in the day‑to‑day running of the department whilst rotating through the main laboratory and Immunohistochemistry.
To become proficient in designated areas of diagnostic work within the department and to provide a comprehensive and appropriate laboratory service to patients and staff.
To remain competent in designated areas of the department and to perform tasks accurately and in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures.
Ensure all work is completed timely and to satisfactory standards and will seek advice from senior staff when required.
To maintain data integrity when enrolling samples on the laboratory information system following national and local guidelines.
Liaise with clinical staff to ensure optimal service delivery.
Monitor use of reagents and consumables and ensure stock levels are maintained to ensure continuous service.
To assist in maintaining, calibrating and ensuring the appropriate quality control of highly complex laboratory equipment.
Communicate results as appropriate.
To contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which he/she works.
Training and Supervision on MLA’s.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths, or equivalent
* Foundation degree in Healthcare Science, Certificate of Achievement Part 2, HCS Apprenticeship Level 4 or equivalent qualification e.g. BTEC or HND
Knowledge
* Evidence of Training & development within a laboratory environment
* Evidence of on‑going training and development
* Have a working knowledge of laboratory areas
* Basic knowledge of health & safety
Training and Experience
* Evidence of training and development within a Cellular Pathology discipline
* Understanding of Laboratory Health and Safety procedures
* Evidence of using complex laboratory equipment
* Evidence of participation in laboratory Quality assurance
