2. Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)

About the General Manager Role Our client, a well-established, family-run Classic Car Specialist based in London, is seeking an experienced Classic Car General Manager to join their dedicated team. This newly created position offers a unique opportunity for a skilled professional with expertise in air-cooled engines, ideally within VAG models, to oversee the day-to-day operations of a thriving automotive specialist engineering business. You will work alongside classic car engineers, engine builders, and machinists, while shadowing the current General Manager, who is preparing for retirement in the coming years.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and organised General Manager to ensure the smooth running of the business, maintaining high standards of customer service and operational efficiency in a dynamic workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities as a General Manager:
5. Oversee day-to-day business operations, ensuring seamless workflow in the workshop.
6. Handle customer orders via telephone, online, and email, delivering professional and knowledgeable service.
7. Prepare job sheets, clearly communicating tasks to engineers, mechanics, and engine builders.
8. Inspect vehicles upon arrival to assess condition and determine required parts and repairs.
9. Coordinate with mechanics and engine builders, passing on job details and required components.
10. Shadow the current General Manager as part of succession planning.
11. Maintain high standards of customer communication, offering technical expertise and support.
12. Adapt to evolving business needs, contributing to the company’s growth.
Requirements as a General Manager:
13. Proven experience in a managerial or supervisory role within a mechanical or automotive workshop, ideally with classic vehicles.
14. Expert knowledge of air-cooled engines, particularly within VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) models.
15. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage operations and coordinate tasks effectively.
16. Confident communication skills for handling customer inquiries and providing technical support.
17. Experience with VAG vehicles or a VW dealer background is a plus; a willingness to learn is highly valued.
18. Full UK Driving Licence.
19. Based in or able to commute to the London area.
20. Comfortable with a structured workday, including set tea breaks and lunch with the team.
