NHS Lanarkshire is delighted to announce vacancies for Modern Apprenticeships within Healthcare Assistant (Hospital Based).
Key Details
* Locations: University Hospital Wishaw, University Hospital Monklands, University Hospital Hairmyers
* Wage: Band 2 (£26,696 – £28,988)
* Duration: Fixed term post for 12 months starting 18th August 2026, 36 hours each week (part‑time hours available on a pro‑rata basis)
* Eligibility: Applicants aged 16–24 on 1st August 2026, or up to 29 for applicants with a disability or care experience. Must demonstrate proficiency at SCQF Level 5 / National 5 level
What We Offer
* Training: In‑house on‑the‑job training to develop a diverse range of healthcare procedures and skills
* Qualification: Work towards a SCQF Level 6 qualification in Healthcare Support with South Lanarkshire College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification
* Support: Dedicated workplace buddy, a Job Coach from the in‑house Employability Team and regular networking sessions with other apprentices
What We’re Looking For
* Motivated Individuals: Highly motivated and committed individuals eager to join our Modern Apprenticeship Programme
* Skills: Strong communication, interest in providing a high level of patient care and a passion for helping others. Ability to understand various procedures and processes and comfortable providing personal care to patients
* Interest: A particular interest in healthcare roles, coupled with a positive attitude towards work and professional development
Duties as a Healthcare Assistant May Include
* Monitoring patients and performing basic health checks
* Helping patients eat their meals
* Assisting patients with getting up and going to bed
* Supporting patients with washing, oral care, bathing and dressing
* Assisting with visits to the toilet or changing incontinence aids
* Caring for patients at the end of their lives
No Prior Experience Necessary: This Modern Apprenticeship welcomes applicants with limited work experience, including school leavers.
