Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients.
* Leadership and supervision of others carrying out all aspects of the caring process.
* Deputise and take charge of the given area regularly in the absence of the Ward/Unit Manager who has 24 hour accountability and responsibility.
* Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.
* Participate in the effective clinical leadership and management of the ward team.
* Actively contribute to the improvement of services and the quality of care provision to meet the needs of patients, service users and their families.
* Act as a role model, mentoring, teaching, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
* RNC - first level or RN with paediatric oncology experience (1)
* Recognised NMC Teaching and Assessing Qualification or equivalent (1
* Evidence of post-registration Educational continuing development (1)
Desirable criteria
* Diploma or Degree in nursing or health-related subject (1)
* Clinical Leadership Programme (1)
* External paediatric oncology qualification (1)
Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Ability

Essential criteria
* Demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise (1)
* Good understanding of clinical governance (1)
* Knowledge of NHS plans and National Nursing Strategy
* Ability to effectively solve problems
Desirable criteria
* Audit experience / research skills (1)
* Experience of patient and public involvement in service delivery (1)

* Post-registration experience
* Evidence of innovation and achievements in clinical practice
* Demonstrates experience of clinical risk management

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.

The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.

COVID 19 Risk Assessment

Due to the current Covid pandemic we have introduced a staff risk assessment into our pre-employment process. This now forms part of the mandatory pre-employment checks that will be carried out if you receive a conditional offer.
