Yorkshire Water are searching for an Operational Safety Advisor to join their hard-working and dedicated team covering operations across Yorkshire. In this position, you will ensure than Yorkshire Water remains compliant with its legal requirements in relation to health and safety. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the Yorkshire Water H&S policies, standards and guidance are implemented at an operational level across the business.
As an Operational Safety Advisor you will develop and embed a high-hazard industries approach to managing major accident hazards and risk whilst building a sustainable OH&S culture that drives continuous improvement through learning, innovation and intelligence.
Where you fit in:
As our Operational Safety Advisor you will
* Provide Subject Matter Expert advice in H&S law, and YW H&S Standards and Guidelines to ensure compliance.
* Support delivery of the annual HSE dept plan & 10yr Strategy.
* Develop and maintain familiarity with the relevant people and assets. Be accountable for H&S advice and provide support and clarity in advice in a timely and effective manner.
* Be the Business Units focal point for all relevant H&S meetings and all matters relating to best practice in relation to H&S.
* Actively engage in the development and review of Safe Working Procedures, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Control of Work documentation.
* Provide an oversight of review of ongoing simultaneous activities to ensure that cumulative hazards and risks are identified and fully evaluated.
* Provide support to operational management during the investigation of incidents and accidents. Where necessary, lead and provide direction for
* RCA and ensure that appropriate actions to prevent reoccurrence are identified and implemented.
* Take a leading role in developing corrective and advisory safety communications (e.g. Safety Bulletins, Lessons Learned, Tool Box Talks etc.)
* Proactively engage in coaching, mentoring and H&S initiative communication and roll out to Business Units.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
* Demonstrable experience as an Operational Safety Advisor in the water sector
* NEBOSH Certificate Level Qualification as a minimum
* Member of IOSH or similar
* Formulating of presentations / presentation skills
* Full UK Driving Licence with ability to travel throughout Yorkshire Region and other locations when required
* Ability to coach, develop and influence others
* Ability to demonstrate an authoritative approach when required
* Incident investigation training – eg Topset
* Experience of working with Trade Unions as one team as part of continual improvement process
You will also benefit from having:
* NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma in OHS
* Working towards CMIOSH or similar
* Experience of clean & wastewater treatment & distribution processes
* Experience of supporting a transient workforce in terms of H&S
* Experience of the interaction between Electrical / Mechanical management systems with H&S systems
