Sewerage Technical Advisor – 32397 (Environment Agency)
Job Description
The Environment Agency is looking for an urban drainage advisor with extensive sewer hydraulic modelling experience to support the national Water Quality Regulatory Development team. The role involves designing and implementing new regulatory approaches, developing audit processes for water quality investigations, co‑developing training courses on Urban Pollution Management (UPM), and coaching staff on sewerage and water quality investigations. You may also take on an incident role and provide business continuity support during incidents.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development of audit processes for water quality investigations under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environment Act.
* Build and utilise sewer hydraulic models to inform guidance to the sector and assure programme delivery.
* Co‑develop training courses on Urban Pollution Management (UPM) and respond to technical queries.
* Coach and develop staff on sewerage and water quality investigations.
* Work proactively with Environment Agency teams and external organisations.
* Provide business continuity support or incident response, with optional additional payment.
Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant degree (civil engineering, geography, environmental science or similar) and demonstrated continued professional experience.
* Experience of sewer modelling and/or river quality impact modelling for UPM studies, including model audits.
* Knowledge of environmental planning and regulation of Water and Sewerage Companies.
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to coach others.
* Experience embedding new approaches into business and developing processes across dispersed teams.
* Ability to work on own initiative while maintaining effective communication with internal and external customers.
