Supply Desk is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in High Wycombe to appoint a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in a structured, nurturing school environment.
This role is ideal for a patient and caring individual who is passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs, helping them develop communication, sensory awareness, physical skills, and independence.
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and medical needs. You will play a key role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
* Supporting pupils with PMLD on a 1:1 and small group basis
* Assisting the class teacher with individualised learning plans and activities
* Supporting sensory‑based and play‑based learning approaches
* Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff
* Supporting communication development (e.g. PECS, Makaton, sensory cues)
* Assisting with personal care and manual handling (essential requirement)
* Encouraging physical development and engagement in activities
* Promoting independence, no matter how small the progress
* Creating a calm, inclusive, and structured environment
Qualifications & Requirements
* Experience working with children or young people with PMLD or complex SEN (highly desirable)
* A calm, patient, and resilient approach
* Comfortable supporting personal care and medical needs
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* A genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex needs
* Availability to work in High Wycombe on a long‑term basis
Desirable (but not essential)
* Background in care, education, or healthcare
* Moving & handling training
* Experience using communication tools such as Makaton or PECS
