The role
As a Senior Calibration Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of our Electrical Calibration Centre, leading a team that ensures the accuracy and reliability of critical test and measurement equipment. This is a role where your expertise will directly contribute to product safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across defence and engineering projects.
Day-to-day, you’ll be:
1. Leading and mentoring a team of Calibration Engineers to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal procedures
2. Managing calibration throughput for a wide range of electrical and electronic equipment, including high-voltage and RF systems
3. Authorising calibration certificates and reports, ensuring accuracy and traceability
4. Developing and maintaining uncertainty budgets and calibration capabilities
5. Supporting compliance with BS EN ISO and BS EN standards
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Senior Calibration Engineer
6. Working with a broad range of electrical/electronic test equipment and control software
7. Diagnosing and repairing electrical/electronic faults
8. Applying high-accuracy measurement practices in a quality-driven environment
9. Understanding BS EN ISO and UKAS accreditation processes
10. Creating and maintaining calibration procedures and uncertainty budgets
Qualifications for the Senior Calibration Engineer
11. HND or equivalent recognised professional status in engineering
12. Minimum of HNC in engineering with significant experience in a relevant discipline
