About the role
As a Safety & Operations Trainer, you will play a key role in supporting the safe and efficient running of DFDS’ port activities in Immingham. You will be responsible for delivering and coordinating internal operational training in line with PUWER and other health, safety, security, and environmental standards. Working closely with management and operational teams, you will ensure employees are trained, assessed, and verified as competent to perform their roles safely and effectively. This position contributes directly to our Competence Management System (CMS), supporting compliance, continuous improvement, and alignment with business objectives.
You will be responsible for
Delivering and coordinating operational training sessions, ensuring employees are competent in the safe use of equipment and operational procedures.
Supporting the assessment, verification, and recording of employee competence in line with the Competence Management System (CMS).
Working collaboratively with managers and supervisors to align training delivery with operational requirements and safety priorities.
Maintaining accurate training records, documentation, and reports to support compliance with PUWER and other relevant regulations.
Contributing to the ongoing improvement of training programs, methods, and materials to enhance learning effectiveness and operational safety.
About you
You will be an experienced and confident operator with a proven background in training others on a range of equipment, including forklifts, Tugmasters, cherry pickers, and telehandlers. With a solid understanding of PUWER and wider HSE legislation, you can assess and verify operator competence within a structured Competence Management System (CMS).
Accredited with Train-the-Trainer certifications and recognised operator licences (ITSSAR or equivalent), you combine technical expertise with excellent communication and coaching skills, ensuring training is delivered in a clear, supportive, and engaging way. You are empathetic and adaptable, able to understand individual training needs and tailor your approach accordingly.
Ideally, you will also hold a Health & Safety qualification (such as NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely), Instructional Techniques Training (AET Level 3 or equivalent), and PUWER Awareness training. Above all, you will bring a flexible, collaborative approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement in training quality, compliance, and operational safety.
