Overview
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Platform Engineering Lead to join our Group Technology and Operations Team at Royal London. The purpose of this role is to lead a team of DevOps Engineers to setup manage Azure cloud infrastructure for the delivery teams. Ensuring best practices are adhere to; use techniques such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) unit testing CI / CD and code reviews. Provide training and support to teams who have less Azure cloud experience. Help troubleshoot complex issues around networking databases storage serverless components and cloud VMs.
About the role
* Creating reusable scalable and robust Terraform modules .
* Running unit tests against newly created Infrastructure.
* Produce consistent and reliable infrastructure for all environments.
* Accurate and efficient tracking of changes through environments.
* Work closely with DevOps Engineering Development and App Support teams.
* Work closely with Group team including Cloud Ops and networking.
* Working flexibly and effectively across teams ensuring that team and business objectives are met.
* Contributing to team meetings and participating in decision making
* Identifies risks and issues; champions effective and timely resolution with thorough Root Cause Analysis performed and impacts fully understood.
* Manage technical / process improvements.
* Help drive the evolving improvement of software quality and software resiliency by automating steps in the value-chain.
* Integrate platforms with operational and configuration automation tooling pipelines and playbooks to continuously improve service reliability security and management.
* Help drive the continuous improvement in change and service reliability through continuous measurement monitoring and operational automation improvements.
About you
* Terraform : Good experience in Terraform; able to create reusable modules that is scalable and easily maintainable for multiple development teams and multiple environments. Ensuring best practice is considered and implemented.
* Azure Cloud : Experience in Azure cloud good understanding of virtual networks subnets NSGs firewalls and Azure policy. Good understanding of Azure cloud resources such as Data factory Azure Function Apps Web Apps Azure SQL API Management Event Grid and Virtual Machines. Experience of creating cloud images using Packer or similar tools. Good understanding of infrastructure redundancy scalability and cost optimization.
* Azure DevOps : Experience of using Git source control CI / CD processes YAML builds Azure cloud scale set build servers.
* Unit Testing : Experience in Pester or similar infrastructure cloud unit testing.
* Monitoring : Experience of infrastructure monitoring and alert management.
* Visionary : Able to see strategic long-term Platform build out and how we can manage to propel RLG modernization initiatives.
* Training : Able to provide training to other DevOps engineers development teams and production support teams. Provide knowledge and experience on best ways to approach complex implementations.
* Mentoring : Able to mentor junior developers on best software engineering practices.
* Trouble shooting : Strong trouble shooting skills around Azure networking storage databases security and cloud resources.
* Agile / Scrum : Experience working in a Scrum methodology delivering work in regular Sprints.
Desirable Experience
