Job Purpose
The senior engineering technician is a proactive individual responsible for building, deploying and maintaining complex R&D instrumentation incorporating fluidics, actuators, pumps and sensing devices used by scientists and engineers developing a next-generation DNA sequencer. The individual can effectively troubleshoot and record issues while supporting other teams. The senior engineering technician is capable of performing repetitive tasks rigorously, with minimal guidance, and to a high standard of quality, within an ISO13485 environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Plan and manage own engineering development projects and responsibilities independently.
* Pro-actively work on projects in collaboration with engineers and scientists giving technical input at the onset of a project where needed.
* Build, troubleshoot and deploy specialized instrumentation, incorporating microfluidics, temperature control, pneumatics, pumps, and sensors.
* Pro-actively seek to improve the performance and reliability of R&D devices (e.g., fixtures and rigs) using scheduled maintenance and fault tracking strategies.
* Prototype and assemble parts using the equipment in the mechanical workshop.
* Perform repetitive tasks rigorously and with minimal supervision.
* Procure and maintain stocks of parts.
* Interface with software components controlling the R&D devices.
* Draft and maintain documentation within a regulated ISO 13485 environment including work instructions, standard operating procedures, bill of materials and reports related to engineering activities.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Undergraduate engineering degree (e.g., Mechanical or Electrical) or BTech in engineering.
* Extensive experience as an Engineering Technician within the Medical device, IVD or related regulated industry.
* Attention to detail.
* Self‑motivated.
* Multi-skilled in the assembly of R&D devices, rigs and fixtures.
* Proficient in preventive maintenance and fault tracking analysis of instrumentation.
* Proficient in prototyping techniques such as laser cutting, 3D printing and CNC milling.
* Proficient in soldering and wiring electrical components and sensors.
* Basic skills in CAD (SolidWorks) and other industry standard fault tracking software tools.
* Understanding of Health and Safety at Work legislation.
* Capable of drafting SOP, WI and reports.
* Proficient in Microsoft Packages.
* Desirable Experience: Knowledgeable in electrical circuit design.
