We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join the team at HMP Preston, a busy Category B prison for males in Preston city centre. Join the Recovery Team and empower those who wish to change their behaviour, promoting health and well‑being through recovery from drugs and alcohol. This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients and delivering outstanding care.
Job Details
Hours: Part‑time, 30 hours per week. Work 4 days per week between Monday and Friday, 8am‑4pm or 9am‑5pm.
Salary: £34,418 – £41,659 FTE, dependent on experience, pro‑rated to 30 hours.
Support: Bespoke induction, including Introducing Health in Justice training, competency framework, regional and national career development opportunities, bespoke learning management system, support from the wider team.
Job Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of approximately 30 psychosocial patients with varying needs, including substance misuse, mental health, trauma, etc.
* Work with reception staff to triage new patients and carry out assessments.
* Deliver group sessions on overdose awareness, harm reduction, motivation to change, relapse prevention, and wellbeing.
* Deliver SMART sessions, Narcotics Anonymous, and Inside Out programmes.
* Provide a programme of psychosocial interventions and comprehensive assessments, including SMART Recovery.
* Provide information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses and safe sex practices.
* Prepare patients for release and transfer.

Qualifications and Experience
* Experience within substance misuse, ideally in a prison or secure environment, and ideally in a Recovery Worker/Practitioner role.
* Experience working within the substance misuse multidisciplinary framework, including housing, social care, health care and mental health pathways.
* Experience managing a caseload.
* Flexible approach and excellent communication skills.
