The closing date is 30 June 2025

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a Nursing Associate/Associate Practitioner to join our well-established Special School Nursing Service.

We are looking for an outstanding practitioner with experience of working in a school environment or healthcare role with children and young people. Your role will involve assisting and supporting the qualified nurse to provide health support in one of the six special schools that HHFT provides nursing support to. This is an opportunity to work closely with our truly integrated community service and you will work closely with our Community Children's Nursing Team, colleagues at Firvale, as well as our existing special schools and the wider child health multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

You will have responsibility for assisting the qualified school nurse in ensuring plans of care are reviewed and maintained, and work with children and families to help achieve maximum independence in health and wellbeing. You will work closely with teachers and classroom assistants in meeting care needs. This busy role requires you to be flexible in a constantly changing environment and to respond to emergency needs as they arise.

In order to be able to deliver the care required to children and young people with a range of health care needs, we will ensure you receive appropriate training with annual skills updates, and have the opportunity to undertake formal training should you wish. The skills required will include nutritional management via gastrostomy, epilepsy care, medicines management, excellence in communication with children with learning disability and a sound understanding of the safeguarding agenda. You will be able to teach others in practice and be an advocate for the child. We will offer you clinical supervision, regular appraisal, training and support in achieving your personal development plan as well as peer support from colleagues in similar roles. Child health will ensure excellent development opportunities and a range of expertise for advice and support in your role. Our expectation is that you would have a Foundation degree in Health and Social Care including medicines management or be working towards the qualification
