Job Description
The Environment Agency is looking for an Energy & Manufacturing Industries Regulation Senior Advisor. You will play a key role in regulating the energy sector – including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries – to support the UK’s Net Zero strategy and protect the environment and public health.
The role is fixed‑term, up to two years, and involves advisory work, stakeholder engagement, incident response, and research project management.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership, advice, guidance, and training to internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Develop sector strategy and deliver tools to support regulation, development and environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects as required.
* Work closely with Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and other industry partners.
* Respond to incidents and assist with business continuity during emergencies.
Experience and Skills Required
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge with experience in energy or related sectors (including knowledge of emissions control measures).
* Strong stakeholder‑management skills – ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, operators, regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Experience working collaboratively in cross‑functional teams to achieve shared objectives.
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and actively promote diversity and inclusion.
* Legislative knowledge of environmental and industry regulations.
