At Spire Cardiff Hospital, our Sterile Services Department is essential to the smooth and safe delivery of surgical care. As an SSD Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring every instrument used in theatre is clean, safe, and ready for use. Your work directly impacts patient outcomes, supporting clinical teams by maintaining the highest standards of safety and precision. This is a hands-on, physically active role where attention to detail and a commitment to quality make a real difference every day.
This Sterile Services Assistant role is ideal for candidates with experience in decontamination or hospital sterile services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Clean, disinfect, sterilise, and pack theatre instruments and equipmentCheck instrument trays pre- and post-decontamination to ensure accuracyPrepare linen, consumables, and surgical sets for sterilisationMaintain accurate records using instrument tracking systemsMonitor equipment performance and report repair requirementsFollow infection prevention and control policies at all timesUndertake manual handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment safelyWho we’re looking for:
Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Decontamination (desirable)Self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a teamAwareness of infection control, microbiology, and aseptic techniquesUnderstanding of SSD processes, machinery, and surgical instrumentsGood English communication skills (equivalent to IELTS 7.0)Comfortable working in a physically demanding environmentContract Type: Bank
