Work Pattern
This is a permanent position, working an average of 37 hours per week. The role covers core business hours and involves weekend working, 24/7 standby rota once fully trained.
Role Overview
We are looking to place a Process Engineer with the York Production team covering all areas of York to help deliver the best service to customers. The role is operational rather than design or supervisory.
Responsibilities
 * Maintain and optimise water treatment processes at a Water Treatment Works.
 * Plan and execute planned workbasket including cleaning and calibrating instrumentation, laboratory checks, fault finding and diagnoses of treatment issues, pipework repairs, integration of trend data, and chemical deliveries.
 * Lead chemical and process optimisation activities to meet production targets and manage cost.
 * Manage asset failure, operational recovery and support cost information monitoring.
 * Review risk assessments, issue control of work documentation, adhere to safe systems of work, identify hazards and implement mitigation measures.
 * Provide on‑site operational support during incidents or operational events and ensure escalation procedures are followed.
 * Adopt modernisation ways of working, including dynamic asset maintenance and support the new ERP asset management system.
Qualifications & Skills
 * Hands‑on practical approach; previous water treatment experience preferred but not essential.
 * Analytical skills, keen fault‑finding ability and proficiency in reviewing data and identifying trends.
 * Attention to detail, IT proficiency, and knowledge of risk policies and procedures.
 * Ability to embrace new technologies and innovative working approaches.
 * Effective stakeholder relationships with internal and external partners.
 * Desirable: experience in a commercial, regulated environment within water or utilities.
 * Medical clearance for confined space work: BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, spirometry.
 * Valid UK driving licence (max 6 points). Must be able to travel to operational sites.
 * Flexibility for out‑of‑hours incidents on a rota basis.
 * Commitment to flexible working patterns and job share options where possible.
