An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Family Law Solicitor to join a distinguished and long-established legal practice in the Midlands. This position is particularly suited to a qualified solicitor with up to three years’ post-qualification experience who is dedicated to effecting meaningful change in the lives of families and children. The department is widely recognised for its expertise in both public and private family law, frequently managing complex and high-profile matters such as child abduction, domestic abuse, adoption, and cases with international dimensions. The successful candidate will benefit from a supportive environment that places great emphasis on professional advancement, encourages cross-referral of work, and provides structured pathways for career progression, including comprehensive support towards achieving Children Panel accreditation. With access to ongoing training and the privilege of working alongside some of the most esteemed professionals in the field, this role offers an exceptional platform for you to refine your skills whilst delivering compassionate and effective representation to clients.
What you'll do:
In the capacity of Family Law Solicitor based in the Midlands, you will:
* Provide authoritative legal advice and representation across a comprehensive range of family and childcare matters, encompassing but not limited to child abduction, special guardianship, adoption, domestic abuse, injunctions, spousal maintenance, property disputes, pension arrangements, and freezing orders.
* Efficiently manage your own caseload while ensuring all work consistently meets the highest standards of professionalism and client service.
* Undertake advocacy in court proceedings where appropriate to ensure continuity and consistency for clients throughout their legal journey.
* Support colleagues by offering technical guidance on intricate issues and contribute to the delivery of internal training sessions within the department.
* Supervise solicitors, trainees, and caseworkers as required; oversee allocation of cases according to complexity and provide constructive feedback to foster professional development.
* Engage proactively in business development activities by networking with external partners and generating new instructions through marketing initiatives.
* Maintain current knowledge of publicly funded family law procedures as well as privately funded case management requirements.
* Demonstrate sensitivity when assisting vulnerable clients or those facing challenging personal circumstances; resolve practical difficulties with empathy and understanding.
* Ensure compliance with all regulatory obligations by maintaining an unblemished practising certificate at all times.
* Contribute positively to departmental culture by encouraging collaboration, supporting positive change initiatives, and promoting cross-referrals among teams.
What you bring:
To flourish as a Family Law Solicitor within this esteemed Midlands-based team you will possess:
* Qualified solicitor with between newly qualified status (NQ) up to three years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) specifically within family or child care law settings.
* A valid practising certificate free from restrictions at the time of application is essential for consideration.
* Extensive hands-on experience dealing with both publicly funded (legal aid) and privately funded family/child care cases is required.
* Proven ability to manage complex caseloads independently while maintaining meticulous attention to detail across all documentation.
* Strong management skills demonstrated through previous supervision or mentoring of junior staff members such as solicitors-in-training or caseworkers.
* Excellent client care abilities; capable of building rapport quickly with individuals facing distressing circumstances while remaining professional at all times.
* Outstanding communication skills—both written and verbal—with confidence presenting arguments during advocacy or liaising effectively with external agencies.
* A collaborative mindset; committed team player who approaches group concerns fairly while fostering an atmosphere conducive to positive change within the department.
* Advanced IT proficiency including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications plus document management systems relevant to legal practice environments.
* Experience undertaking your own advocacy before courts is advantageous though not mandatory; willingness to develop these skills further is encouraged.
