Senior Engineering Technician / Senior HMI Engineer (Contract)
Location: Lincoln (5 days per week onsite)
Contract Length: 6 months
Rate: £380–£400 per day (Inside IR35)
Start: ASAP (or by agreement)
Overview
An established engineering services organisation within the power and industrial sector is seeking a Senior Engineer / Technician to join its Engineering team on a contract basis.
You will play a key role in the build, development, modernisation, and support of industrial Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems, supporting upgrade programmes for small gas turbine platforms. This role is hands-on and delivery-focused, working closely with Engineering, Project Execution, and Field Service teams.
Key Responsibilities HMI Systems (Hardware & Software)
* Install, configure, and test standardised HMI builds across:
o Windows endpoints
o Servers
o Client machines
* Deploy and support industrial HMI / SCADA platforms including:
o AVEVA InTouch
o FactoryTalk Optix
o Siemens PCS7
o WinCC
Cybersecurity & System Hardening
* Implement cybersecurity controls and best practices, including:
o Windows OS hardening
o Endpoint security solutions
o Application whitelisting
o Secure backup solutions
Networking & Infrastructure
* Configure, develop, and test industrial networking components such as:
o Industrial firewalls
o Managed industrial switches
Documentation & Configuration Management
* Develop and maintain work instructions for build and configuration standards
* Create and maintain technical information databases
* Support configuration and change management processes
Project & Field Support
* Collaborate with Project Execution teams to improve quality and on-time delivery
* Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues discovered during testing
* Provide technical support to Field Service teams during commissioning activities
Essential Qualifications
* Degree-qualified (or equivalent professional experience/accreditation) in an engineering discipline, ideally:
o Computer Science
o Control Systems
o Cybersecurity
o Automation or related field
Preferred Experience & Skills Industrial Control Systems
* 1+ years' experience working with industrial control system applications such as:
o Rockwell / Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
o Siemens PCS7 Control Systems
o AVEVA InTouch
o FactoryTalk Optix
Industrial Networks & Cybersecurity
* Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity standards and frameworks, including:
o IEC 62443
o NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF)
o EU Cyber Resilience Act
* Understanding of secure industrial network architectures
Ways of Working
* Experience with configuration/change management tools and processes
* Working knowledge of IT tools for:
o Project management
o Business analytics
* Practitioner of a Systems Engineering approach to product and system improvement (highly desirable)
Working Arrangements
* Onsite: 5 days per week in Lincoln
* Contract: 6 months
* IR35 Status: Inside IR35
* Rate: £380–£400 per day (dependent on experience)
