Purpose:
To provide financial insight and strategic support to commercial teams, enabling data-driven decisions that drive profitability and growth, including:
Ownership of gross margin reporting and analysis daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc requirements.
Partnering with stakeholders in buying, operations, marketing and other teams to deliver timely, accurate insights that inform decision-making.
Evaluating the financial impact of business initiatives on sales, margin and net profit and providing actionable recommendations to improve performance.
Lead financial planning for margin, including annual budgets & reforecasts.
Key Accountabilities
Customer / Strategy / Plan
Deliver timely and accurate margin reporting and analysis (daily, weekly, monthly) in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Review margin vs. budget/forecast weekly & monthly and prepare insights for business presentations.
Provide thought leadership to optimize sales & margin, identifying pricing opportunities and inconsistencies.
Assess financial impact of business decisions (e.g., promotions, price elasticity, other initiatives).
Set and manage gross margin budgets and forecasts, working with the wider business to deliver plans.
Collaborate with commercial teams (buying, sales, marketing and ops) to provide financial analysis and challenge assumptions.
People / Leadership
Ability to communicate confidently and concisely, across all departments and levels of seniority within the business.
Act as a key business partner to a number of departments across the business, including but not limited to the Topps Tiles Retail and Ops Director, Buying Director, buying, retail, property, HR and operations.
Develop close and effective working relationships within Finance.
Financials
Ability to manipulate, analyse, and interpret complex and large data sets, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely and meet the business needs.
Responsibility for ensuring that margin performance is well understood across the organisation - appropriate reporting and variances to expectations are available and actionable, commercial insight is generated in a way that colleagues generate learnings and instigate change.
Ensure that the Director of Commercial Finance and Senior FP&A Manager are well appraised of margin performance (e.g. variances vs budget) and emerging long-term trends.
Support commercial projects and initiatives, providing financial evaluation and recommendations to maximize ROI.
Preparation of information for presentations across the business, for example weekly reporting (including KPIs, etc.), Board reporting, etc.
Risk and process
Ensure appropriate processes exist to consistently generate accurate, timely and valued data and insight.
Ensure appropriate processes exist both within finance and across the organisation to identify key areas of risk and agree with the Senior Finance Manager appropriate plans to manage those risks.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
Essential
Good level of commerciality - be able to participate in commercial/operational discussions, taking the time to understand business objectives and focusing on activity to yield the greatest commercial benefit.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication ability (both on a 1:1 basis and in a group environment).
Strong analytical and financial modelling skills and attention to detail.
Ability to influence and support non-financial teams.
Ability to prioritise, multi-task and manage deadlines.
Ability to see the bigger picture and yet demonstrate an eye for detail and excellent numeracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving; able to find innovative and pragmatic solutions.
Work with large, complex data sets to uncover actionable insights and deliver clear, concise summaries that drive business decisions
Good working knowledge of core finance processes - margin/stock accounting, weekly reporting, budgeting & planning, decision / commercial support.
