Overview
MT03 Junior Clinical Fellow - Rheumatology. Three full-time 12-month fixed-term posts, available August 2026. This post combines clinical work with translational research.
The rheumatology department at the Royal Free Hospital focuses on the diagnosis and management of connective tissue disorders, SLE, scleroderma, vasculitis and sarcoidosis, with activity in acute medicine, psoriatic arthritis, and autoimmune inflammatory conditions in general. There are weekly academic meetings, medical grand rounds, and morning report meetings. There are excellent opportunities for postgraduate training and research. Post holders will work with the rheumatology team and undertake a specified research project, contribute to the UCL teaching programme, or participate in clinical trials activity (depending on the post).
There is a commitment to the general medicine on-call rota.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take a primary role in providing in-patient care, reviewing consults from other teams and assisting with clinics and administrative work. The post holder will also take a central role in continuing medical education, training the medical students and nursing staff in the use of biologics and modern management of inflammatory arthritis. The post holder will also support the Patient Intervention and Treatment Unit (PITU) offering weekly Iloprost and other specialist infusions (Rituximab, Infliximab, IVIG etc) to rheumatology patients. In addition, the appointee will provide liaison with the specialist nurse practitioners who run the biologic and disease-modifying drug monitoring clinics.
Education & professional Qualifications
* GMC registration and entry on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register
* Higher academic degree e.g. MD/MS or PhD (or in final stages of preparation), or evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publications
Experience
* Experience of and commitment to multidisciplinary working
* Experience in treatment of adult rheumatology
* Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
* Involvement in continuing professional development
* Attendance on ATLS, CRISP BST courses
Skills and aptitudes
* Recent experience in acute general medicine
* Excellent communication skills verbal and written. Good command of written and spoken English
