The Role The Scientist will be a broad ranging laboratory-based role and will help to expand our Emerging Target Biology Team. The role will bring additional cell-based functional screening, and neuroscience expertise to triage lead antibody candidates derived from Alchemab’s platform technology. Working closely within the Research team, they will build project-relevant in-house capability for a wide variety of cell-based assays. They will utilise in vitro assay development skills and demonstrate expertise with cell lines, primary cells and iPSCs to study antibody function in disease relevant assays. In addition, the successful candidate will work to improve the workflows surrounding the capture, analysis and recording of data in partnership with the Alchemab Tech team. The role is based in Cambridge, UK. Responsibilities Independently design, perform and interpret cell-based functional assays Assay examples may include: Cell viability and toxicity, protein aggregation, neurite outgrowth and branching analysis, mitochondrial function and oxidative stress measurements, synaptic density and function assessments, neuroinflammation, neuron activity, cell migration, BBB, phagocytosis assays, CA imaging Techniques may include: Western blots, ELISAs, MSD, Flow cytometry (using multi colour panels), Immunocytochemistry and Imaging, electrophysiology including multielectrode array, transcriptomic analysis including qPCR, Cell types may include immortalized, primary and iPSC cells in monocultures and co-culture on standard cell culture plates and in microfluidics Software may include: FlowJo, Graphpad Prism, Benchling, Image J Work with team to design, analyse and interpret results from in vivo experiments Work collaboratively with the Scientific team and with external research groups and partners Assist other areas of business as needed, including Immunology and Oncology laboratory work Work to improve the efficiency of data capture, analysis and recording in partnership with the Alchemab Tech team. Communicate efficiently, interpret and share results to different audiences. Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook records Maintain assigned laboratory equipment and/or duties Perform all work demonstrating due care and attention to all health and safety and COSHH regulations, and Human Tissue Act records where required Work closely with the scientific leadership team to review targets and help build Alchemab’s target portfolio Experience & Requirements Essential A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (or industry equivalent) An ability to work independently, developing, running and trouble-shooting new scientific techniques and experimental protocols and ability to share results in clear manner A high attention to detail in planning and performing assays, for example pro-active inclusion of appropriate positive and negative controls Strong background in cell biology including prior experience performing and designing complex cell and biochemical functional assays with iPSC derived neurons An ambition to work with the Alchemab team to build a transformative company A team player who proactively and directly communicates and collaborates with other team members Desirable Experience in neurodegenerative disease target review Experience in an industrial drug discovery environment Experience of working in a collaborative space for example with CROs or independent academic groups NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all inclusive.
