The Nursing Associate works alongside a team within general practice. The post holder will be an integral part of the general practice team, working as part of Collingwood Health Group, and may be required to work at any of our branch sites.

The nursing associate's principal task is to support registered nurses to enable them to focus on the more complex clinical care of patients.

Our organisation is led by a team of 10 dedicated GP Partners and supported by a wide-ranging multidisciplinary team that includes Salaried GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, a Community Practitioner, Physician Associate, Nursing Associates, Healthcare Assistants, and a Phlebotomist. We also have an integrated pharmacy team comprising Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, who contribute to the safe and effective management of prescribing and medication use.

This robust clinical workforce is underpinned by a highly skilled and efficient administrative team that ensures the seamless operation of the practice. Together, our multidisciplinary team is committed to providing outstanding care and continually improving health outcomes for the communities we serve.

Job responsibilities

The nursing associate works alongside a team within general practice. The post holder will be an integral part of the general practice team, working as part of Collingwood Health Group, and may be required to work at any of our branch sites.

The nursing associate's principal task is to support registered nurses to enable them to focus on the more complex clinical care of patients.

Primary Responsibilities include:

* Delivery of high quality, compassionate care whilst undertaking specific clinical and care tasks under the direction of a registered nurse (or other registered care professional as appropriate) with a focus on promoting good health and independence.
* Provide high-quality holistic and person-centred care to individuals.
* Provide routine care to patients as required in accordance with clinical evidence, NICE, and NSF guidelines.
* Provide wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required.
* Work as part of the organisation's multidisciplinary team to provide and monitor care, under direct or indirect supervision.
* Improve safety and quality of care at every opportunity.
* Contribute to the delivery of integrated care.
* Work with the organisation's multidisciplinary team to ensure delivery of nursing associate duties to complement existing workforce.
* Work with a supervisor to develop own clinical competence, leadership, and reflective practice skills within the workplace.
* Provide support and supervision to training nursing associates, healthcare assistants, apprentices, and those on learning placements as required.
* Support registered nurses to enable them to focus on more complex clinical care.
* Develop relationships across the multidisciplinary team to support integration of the role across health and social care, including primary, secondary, and mental health care.
* Perform and record clinical observations such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations, and pulse.
* After additional training, provide flu vaccinations, ECGs, venepuncture, and other relevant clinical tasks as required.
* Promote health and wellbeing to all patients, e.g., undertaking NHS health checks.
* Care for individuals with dementia, mental health conditions, and learning disabilities, including managing recall systems and follow-ups for non-attenders.
* Provide wound care (ulcer/Doppler, etc.) to patients.
* Support during minor operations as required.
* Advise patients on healthcare and promote self-management, including signposting to community and voluntary services.
* Communicate proactively and effectively with all MDT colleagues and contribute to meetings.
* Maintain accurate patient health records with appropriate clinical data and SNOMED CT codes.
* Process pathology results as required.
* Enhance own performance through continuous professional development and share knowledge with colleagues.
* Work with line managers to access regular clinical supervision.
* Contribute to clinical governance and attend annual appraisals.
* Support and deliver health promotion and wellbeing programs, including public health campaigns like COVID-19 or flu clinics.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Insight into evaluating own strengths and development needs, seeking advice as needed.
* Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.
* Experience with safeguarding policies and processes.
* Experience working in a general practice setting.


Qualifications

* Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC Register.
* GCSE Mathematics and English.
