Overview
Consultant in Anaesthetics (Paediatric and/or Maxillofacial/Airway) – East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
Role: Consultant in Anaesthetics (Paediatric and/or Maxillofacial/Airway). Location: Ashford, Canterbury and across the trust sites as required.
Responsibilities
* Provide safe, evidence based anaesthetic care for a variety of surgical lists at William Harvey Hospital with an opportunity to work on other trust sites.
* Maintain and improve standards and quality of anaesthetic services.
* Supervise and train junior staff including junior doctors, medical students and other clinical staff within theatres.
* Support and pursue educational roles; educational qualifications are desirable.
* Maintain skills and update knowledge base meeting the Continuing Education and Professional development requirements of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
* Participate in the audit programme of the department.
* Lead tutorials and department meetings in rotation with other staff.
* Participate in the consultant on-call rota.

* This is a 10 programmed activity (PA) post which includes 2 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).
* Job plans within the Anaesthetic Department at William Harvey Hospital are flexible and can be tailored to reflect the applicant’s particular skills and experience. Many specialist clinical interests can be supported within William Harvey Hospital or across the trust.
Locations and hospital context
The Trust operates five hospitals delivering a wide range of services. William Harvey Hospital (Ashford) and Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital (Margate) provide general services and regional specialties. Kent & Canterbury Hospital (Canterbury) provides adult medical care, inpatient renal, urology, vascular services and robotic surgery. Additional facilities at the Buckland (Dover) and Royal Victoria Hospital (Folkestone) provide outpatient, diagnostic and minor injury services, with opportunities to work across sites.
