About the Role: As the SENCo, you will lead and manage the school’s provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Working alongside the senior leadership team, teaching staff, and external professionals, you will ensure that all pupils with SEND are appropriately identified, supported, and included. Your role will be pivotal in developing strategic plans, coordinating EHCPs and IEPs, and supporting class teachers with tailored interventions and advice. This role requires strong leadership, empathy, and a thorough understanding of SEND legislation and best practice. Key Responsibilities of a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo): Oversee and coordinate SEND provision across the school Lead on EHCP applications, annual reviews, and liaise with external agencies Develop and implement IEPs in collaboration with staff and parents Support teachers in identifying pupils with additional needs and providing strategies for differentiation Monitor progress and outcomes for pupils with SEND and report to SLT and governors Manage records and ensure compliance with SEND Code of Practice Promote inclusive teaching practices across the school Deliver training and guidance to staff on SEND-related matters Act as the key point of contact for parents and external professionals Support transition plans for SEND pupils joining or leaving the school SENCo Candidate Requirements: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential National SENCo Award or willingness to complete it Proven experience working with children with SEND in a school setting Strong knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills A commitment to inclusive education and equal opportunities Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply) Why Join GSL Education?
