Senior Audiologist Band 6 (Adult and paed split role)

Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust Audiology is committed to providing the highest quality services to the population we serve, or audiology departments are state of the art and our team is outstanding. So we are looking for an outstanding clinician to join our team

You will have a BSC Audiology or equivalent ( BAAT or CAC qualifications, or an approved diploma with CCC.) You must have appropriate NHS or other experience consistent with your qualifications.

This band 6 post will be working across both adult and paediatric services, We provide hospital based clinics for the adult hearing aid services for the local general population and adults with learning disabilities, along with Hearing therapy, vestibular services and group clinics. Our paediatric service is hospital based for diagnostic and rehab work while we also deliver second tier services for our paediatric population in a community setting. You will also be supporting our private dispensing clinics.The work is varied with opportunities to expand your skills and knowledge while working in an outstanding team of multidisciplinary professionals.


Main duties of the job


This post is for a suitably qualified Audiologist with a proven track record of providing excellent clinical services, working with adults and children.To work as part of the audiology team to provide auditory and vestibular diagnostics and rehabilitation for both our adult and paediatric services.

You will work autonomously and perform routine audiological investigations on individuals of all ages, to support the differential diagnosis of auditory dysfunction. You will provide and assist in second tier community paediatric audiology clinics, using age appropriate testing techniques including VRA and produce reports to various medical and education colleagues

You will agree aural rehabilitation for patients of all ages, including the selection, fitting and exchange of a range of NHS digital hearing aids, the taking of aural impressions and giving advice on assistive listening devices.

You will advise junior colleagues on treatment plans and technical issues

You will support the delivery of the paediatric diagnostic and rehabilitation service working closely with Audiovestibular clinicians and senior Audiologists. This will include the provision of diagnostic ABR to the NHSP population.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


General: This post is for a suitably qualified Audiologist with a proven track record of providing excellent clinical services, working with adults and children.

Duties and responsibilities


Clinical

* Perform routine audiological investigations on individuals of all ages, to support the differential diagnosis of auditory dysfunction.

* Agree aural rehabilitation for patients of all ages, including the selection, fitting and exchange of a range of NHS digital hearing aids, the taking of aural impressions and giving advice on assistive listening devices.

* Advising junior colleagues on treatment plans and technical issues

* Support the delivery of the paediatric diagnostic and rehabilitation service working closely with Audiovestibular clinicians and senior Audiologists. This will include the provision of diagnostic ABR to the NHSP population.

* Complete routine follow up checks of hearing aid use

* Undertake routine hearing aid repair/servicing clinics

* Perform advanced tests of middle ear function, tinnitus evaluation and objective measurement procedures.

* Perform ward visits to in-patients requiring assessment or hearing aid issue or repair

* Provide expert audiological support for ENT and Audiological Medicine clinics

* Undertake assessments of adult patients with hearing difficulties using the direct referral system

* Support the delivery of the Hearoic private dispensing service .

* Offer wax removal, including micro-suction clinics

* Provide cover for colleagues as required


Administrative

* Assist with the ordering of Stock and Non-Stock items.

* Ensure the availability of up-to-date patient information leaflets

* Ensure data entered on Audiology Patient Management System is accurate and current.

* Complete data entries on all systems used within the department

* Correspond with GP's, Education services and other professionals as appropriate


Governance


Perform Stage A and B daily/weekly equipment calibration checks

Work in accordance with local protocols to ensure that clinical and professional standards are maintained

Actively participate in clinical audit

Ensure the safety and security of equipment at all times and reports any problems to the Audiology Team Leader at the earliest opportunity.

Assist in the annual equipment calibration programme.


Team Role


Support the Heads of Service with the implementation of new service developments/protocols.

Ensure the working environment is clean and tidy and that all necessary supplies are available.

Promote a professional, welcoming and caring environment


Education and Training/Self Development


Provide mentorship for Students in the department, liaising with universities and supervising logbooks

Identify own training and development needs and undertake appropriate training/education as required, supported by regular PDR

Attend professional meetings as required

Adhere to all Trust Policies and Health and Safety, as applicable


General


Any other duties may be discussed and agreed with the Heads of Audiology Services.

Essential criteria

* Demonstrates understanding of issues surrounding hearing impairment and impact on quality of life for the whole family
* Ability to prescribe and fit hearing aids
* Demonstrates ability to conduct appropriate hearing tests on a wide range of patients
* Demonstrates a knowledge of test protocols
* Experience of man management
* Knowledge of equipment and calibration issues
* Demonstrates excellent communication/interpersonal skills
* Good non-verbal communication skills
